Hi kids! It’s your friendly neighborhood proverbial, Ajeet. I’m super secretly writing a guest post here for Valentine’s Day talking about how Nita and I became Nita and Ajeet. It was a long time coming and involved a lot of effort on my part early on.
Nita and I actually ran into each other in college. We had a Matrices class together in sophomore year (don’t ask me what it was about, Nita’s smile was too distracting). She didn’t actually smile at me since she was doing her best to ignore me, but when I got a glimpse of it man I knew I was going after someone special. Our class seats were in rows split down the middle by a walkway. She always sat in the aisle seat towards the middle and I always tried to sit exactly one row behind her so I could bother her. Maybe I could accidentally hear her talking about an interest of hers so I could then bring it up later pretending I didn’t hear her talking about it and we could connect. Alas, she would have none of it as you can probably tell from my Facebook messages even after I had a whole semester with her:
This screenshot isn’t Photoshopped or fake at all. That was really 23 year old me trying to get the attention of the future love of my life using my monosyllabic suave ways. Smooth right? Keep my messages short and act casual even though I was probably overthinking and had my face in my hands looking at the screen just waiting for her to respond. As you can see, my casual serendipitous attempts were met with…barren apathy. There’s nothing much after these messages because I realized I had to take a new approach and try to not creepily message her on the internet. As luck would have it, 2 months later I ran into her at a friend’s birthday during a night out in Dallas. I remember she looked up at me and said “You’re so tall” before giving me her phone number.
That moment is when our love story began, and 4 years later it feels like we still have a million chapters left to go.
Since today is the day of love, I wanted to share with you guys a little background of how we met and how our love story came to be. It’s incredible to think what started out as desperate Facebook messages grew into me writing this post on a blog that we grew together.
Sometimes your best laid plans do work out after all.
