New York Fashion Week has come and gone so fast this year, I can’t believe I’m already back home from it! Ajeet and I were literally there for an entire week and it was pretty spectacular. I wanted to share bits and pieces about our trip along with where we stayed!
Our stay with Yotel
Let’s jump into the hotel first! As most of you know, I stayed at Yotel for the first half of my trip so I’m pretty familiar with the hotel since I actually stayed here last season for fashion week. 😉 I knew I had to stay here again because everything was exceptional from the service to the room.
To make things a bit easier and less repetitive, I wanted to share a blog post from last year that I wrote about when staying at Yotel. Literally everything I wrote in it still holds true but this go round I wanted to talk more about the special amenities that really made our stay so easy during such a stressful week.
During fashion week, location is key. We were running from meeting to meeting and the last thing I needed was to be at an obscure location where ubers/lyfts are rare. We called an uber/lyft sometimes but the majority of the time, we just stepped right out and grabbed a taxi! It was surprisingly easier because we were on a busy street and it was the same price (sometimes cheaper) than an uber/lyft.
The WiFi at Yotel is SO fast too– literally no complaints over here. If you’re on a business trip and need speedy WiFi, look no further! I was so impressed at how quickly we could work during our stay. It honestly made the world of a difference for us!
I spent a lot of time on the 4th floor where there’s a gorgeous terrace overlooking the city. Ajeet and I didn’t get many breaks during our stay but when we did have a moment, we’d grab a snack at the terrace and sit down and relax. This was a really nice feature of the hotel that we enjoyed almost every day!
The only downside for me was the queen room being a bit small. I made the mistake of booking last minute (again) so the king rooms were sold out! I did the same thing last year, lol. We had 6 bags in total so it was a tight fit but honestly if we didn’t have the 6 bags, the room would have been fine! I have got to make sure to book earlier next time though because the king rooms online look sooooo nice!! If you ever get a chance to stay here, aim for that + a city view!
If you’re heading to NYC sometime soon and want a unique, modern and super convenient location then definitely check out Yotel first! Everything from the comfort of the beds, the service and modern twist was incredible.
Fashion Week Recap
As you probably noticed, I didn’t attend a ton of shows this go round. I went to two– Nicole Milller & Tadashi because I always love seeing their collection year after year. Truth be told, shows are fun and I have to at least see one but it doesn’t really help the business grow. A lot of shows consist of bloggers showing off to other bloggers that they’re going to this or that. At the end of the day, you’re earning $0 from it. Plus, I know y’all don’t want my stories to be nonstop runway shows during the week I’m in New York too!
This season Ajeet and I really wanted to focus on us and the business. We wanted to meet with brands one-on-one and attend the parties in the evening so we can network and hang out with the people we email on a daily basis! Literally every part of blogging is done via email so it’s nice to get that face-to-face time with brands and actually get to know them in real life.
We went to a few events that I truly enjoyed with Lancôme, Vital Proteins, Maybelline, and of course LIKEtoKNOW.it. Maybelline was probably my favorite and I had a pinch-me moment because I was literally at the same event as Gigi Hadid and Adriana Lima. The Maybelline team is so incredibly sweet and I love hanging out with them! The LIKEtoKNOW.it event was also one that was special to me because it was for the book launch! As you might know, I was featured in their coffee table book along with hundreds of other influencers and it was truly special to be included. I know a lot of people say there isn’t a lot of diversity when it comes to LTK. I do see them try and make an effort and for them to include me, an Indian woman, in their book is pretty amazing.
Ajeet and I also spent a little time scouting out places to live in the city too. I know it’s a bit premature since we aren’t moving to NY until next April but I really wanted to get a feel for the area. We really like West Village but if a 2 bdr/2ba with a doorman & central A/C is too expensive, then we’re going to look into Brooklyn. I know Dumbo is super nice and so is Long Island City! It’s crazy to even talk about moving there…I honestly won’t believe it until it happens, hah!
NYFW was good to us this year. As usual, it was jam-packed but so productive and SO fun! I truly can’t wait to be back in February next year. I hope you all enjoyed the content surrounding fashion week because it’s really special for me and I’m always so grateful to be invited to all the shows and events.
Speaking of shows and events, a ton of y’all have been asking about how to get invited so I’ll be working on a blog post touching on that topic soon! I hope you enjoyed this post and as always, feel free to ask any questions down below. Chat soon, xo!
