Layering Sweaters || Tips & Examples

To be honest, I thought I wouldn’t be able to wear any of my cozy fall wear after moving to Los Angeles but I was wrong! It’s been pretty nice during the day but SO chilly at night—I’m already wearing all the cozy things. I actually found myself layering a bit more while I was here so the timing for this post couldn’t have been better!

I partnered with Loft today to share my sweater layering style which includes sweater dresses, sweater vests and sweater skirts!! Just wearing one sweater piece simply doesn’t keep me warm and so layering is key for me. A lot of my friends always ask me how to layer sweaters with other sweater pieces without it looking too bulky so here are a few tips!

 

TIPS ON HOW TO LAYER SWEATERS

Combine colors, textures, and patterns

I absolutely love switching things up a bit when it comes to layering—it definitely adds a lot of definition in your outfit if you combine different colors or patterns. This will also help not having your overall outfit look too bulky! For example, I wore a burgundy sweater dress from Loft in look #1 and paired it with a light grey sweater vest to add overall depth. For look #2, I found a sweater skirt with a fun pattern and threw on a solid sweater! Easy peasy!

Wear Sweaters from Head to Toe

If you’re not comfortable throwing on more cloth to an already thick sweater, why not find a sweater skirt?! That’s what I did in look #2 and it kept me so warm!

Find longer button downs or t-shirts

Another great way to layer some of your oversized sweaters is to throw a t-shirt or button down underneath! It’ll add some perspective to your outfit, keep you warm and spruce up your look all at the same time! I’ll link some of my favorite button downs that are great for layering down below!

One thing I love about both of these outfits is that I can easily transition them into winter by throwing on either a blanket scarf or some stockings under the skirt/dress!
