[Late] Monday Moments: I’m going to New York Fashion Week!

I hope you all had a great long weekend!! I took the day off yesterday to relax and spend time with the family. Sometimes you just need to step away from social media and unplug for a bit– that’s what I did yesterday and I now feel ever so refreshed!! Although, I wish I could unplug just a tad bit longer than 18 hours BUT it’s already Tuesday and I leave for NYFW this week and oh my gosh you guys, I’m panicking! I bought everything for NYFW thinking it was going to be HOT and HUMID– but it’s actually going to be a bit chilly for me (in the low 70s). Soo…. I have exactly one day to find more appropriate clothing that will keep me warm and comfy in New York. That’s the plan for tomorrow so wish me luck!!

PS– Since I missed Monday Moments yesterday, I’ll name this Tuesday Thoughts and will bring back the OG #MondayMoments next week! 😉😘

HOW I DECIDED TO ATTEND NYFW

Speaking of NYFW, I wanted to take a moment to chat about it! This is actually going to be my first year going since last year I was in law school and wasn’t able to attend. Yup, first timer over here! The crazy thing is I decided to go only 3 weeks ago, lol! Ajeet and I have so much going on over the next few months with 3 more trips before we prep for our move to LA in October. It was the week of August 14 when I realized, what the hell am I doing?! Flights were dirt cheap and my husband was ready to go with me. I think part of me just used our busy lives as an excuse not to go because in all honesty, I’m kind of intimidated. I’ve never been to NYFW, I have NO idea what to do or how to prepare or who to contact or where to even find the NYFW calendar! I just felt in the dark about the entire process. I don’t know what hit me but the week of August 14 I just felt like I needed to woMAN up and do it. I booked my flight almost immediately and just called my husband simply saying flights were booked out of the blue! He was shocked but insanely supportive/excited and glad that I made the first step.

WHAT I DID THE LAST 3 WEEKS

Now, here comes the hard part. I booked my flight (easy peasy) but I had NO plans whatsoever for the 5 days I was going to be there. No shows, no presentations, no appointments, no brand meetings, no parties…nothing. I started chatting with a few blogger girls and some of them gave me advice on what to do (i.e. jump on GPS Radar) and some words of advice while I’m there. Four days after I booked my flight, I somehow to book a hotel which to me was MAJOR progress! I still hadn’t done any research on shows/events/presentations or who to contact at all. I started all of that on August 18. Since August 18, I’ve sent an insane amount of emails. I found the NYFW calendar and started going through the shows and wrote down a list of the the ones I really wanted to attend. I googled contacts and sent SO many emails, you guys. For about every 20 emails I would send, maybe 1 or 2 people would respond. I didn’t let it discourage me because I was told most people respond about a week before NYFW so I knew I had time. I kept emailing and emailing until I finally made somewhat of a schedule! I was persistent (some would say annoying) but I did it!!

Side note: I will have a blog post about my NYFW tips with how I got started and more in depth detail on where to find contacts / how to pitch to attend events. I kind of had to do this all on my own– which is a bummer. I noticed a lot of bloggers were unwilling to share contacts (no idea why) and are very secretive about their NYFW plans. It’s quite strange to me. These last 3 weeks behind the scenes have been crazy and I know first-hand how frustrating it can be when you’re in the dark about something and just need a little help to see the light. Total bummer that some bloggers aren’t the friendliest but I WILL have a post up sharing all my tips and how I managed to a packed schedule for my first time in NYFW!

WHAT I’M DOING NOW

Stressing. Hah! My entire fashion week schedule is all planned out and organized with the exception of a few tentative/pending events so that part is taken care of. Like I mentioned earlier, it’s going to be chilly for me in NY especially in the evening so I kind of have to re-plan a lot of my outfits. I’ll be spending quite a bit of time at the mall tomorrow finalizing a few looks and then I can actually start packing. I will vlog the entire experience since it’s my first time and you guys don’t want to miss all the rookie mistakes I’ll make! 😅 It’s definitely going to be an amazing experience no matter what and I’m excited Ajeet is coming along with me for the ride! I hope you all follow along my journey and if you get bored of it, I promise to get back to regular scheduled programing after Sept 12!! 😉

Keep a look out for my NYFW tips post and also a what to pack for NYFW post! I know I only decided to attend 3 weeks ago, but since I had to do most of it on my own, I really did learn A LOT (the hard way) and want to share it all with you guys. I hope my posts make your planning next year easier or at least helpful! As always, feel free to email or DM me with any questions! Chat soon, loves!
